Marin Duvernois
Curious, versatile and enthusiastic, I build my instrumental playing and my culture from my various experiences.
Caught of passion for the historically informed interpretation and for the contemporary music (more specifically the dialogue composer-interpret), I plan to develop especially these two aspects in my future artistic life. I continue in parallel the composition and arrangement of pieces for various ensembles (mainly for horn ensemble).
I began studying the horn at the Regional Conservatory of Chambéry in the class of Jean-Claude Escoffon, then with Pierre Burnet, and continued in the specialized program at the Regional Conservatory of Annecy with Pierre Véricel. After obtaining my Diploma of Musical Studies (DEM) in 2018, I entered the National Conservatory of Lyon (CNSMDL) with Benoît de Barsony, David Guerrier, Hugues Viallon, and Jean Pincemin.
During my musical scolarity, I had the opportunity to train as an orchestral musician in various academies, including the Jeune Orchestre Européen Hector Berlioz in 2018 and 2019 (where I discovered a passion for period instruments), the French National Youth Orchestra (OFJ) in 2020 and 2021, the Ambronay EEEmerging+ Academy, and the Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra in 2022. I have had the opportunity to perform alongside the Ensemble Orchestral Contemporain, the Orchestre National de France, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, and the ensemble Les Dissonances. I regularly perform with the Orchestre des Champs-Élysées and Les Siècles orchestra.
Always drawn to musical composition, I developed a keen interest in composition at an early age and quickly became familiar with music notation software. I took composition lessons with Vincent Magnon then with Franck Vaudray, as well as orchestration lessons with Luca Antignani. My arrangements for horn ensemble of symphonic repertoire are performed by the ensemble Cornicîmes of which I am a member.
At the CNSMDL, I discovered contemporary music by participating in numerous creation sessions of the pieces of students in the composition class. I became fascinated by the unique sonorities of this music but regretted that most composers were not really familiar with my instrument. After meeting them, I undertook the writing of a document presenting the extended techniques for the horn. As part of my Master’s research project, I created a website documenting these effects by explaining them through video, audio, graphical, and textual examples.
